Black Bean Burgers

According to my father, calling a black bean burger a burger is a crime in most states. However, one bite of these and you’ll have anyone who agrees with that changing their tune. These burgers are so delicious, come together very quickly with very few ingredients, and are so simple anyone can make them.

I recommend leaving the beans out on a sheet of paper towels after drained and rinsed to dry out for like 30 minutes for more texture variety but honestly, I forget to do this pretty much every time I make them and they always turn out so good they’re inhaled within a minute.

Also, you can use any egg substitute you like. I happen to have a bag of Red Mill egg substitute in my cabinet I’ve been slowly working through, however, Just egg, flax egg or even a chia egg would work perfectly fine in this. Use what you have, the point of this recipe is to be easy and delicious without an obscene amount of extra junk.

  • 1 can black beans, rinsed and dried well
  • 1/2 medium white onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 substituted vegan egg I used Red Mill but Just, flax or chia works as well
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Oil or line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mash beans into a paste with a fork. Leave some chunks for texture.
  • In a food processor, finely chop onions and garlic (or mince by hand). Add to beans and stir to combine.
  • In a seperate bowl, combine egg subsititute, paprika and cumin. Add to bean mixture and combine. The mixture should be wet.
  • Add the bread crumbs and salt in and combine until mixture holds. Form into 4 patties and place on baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, flip and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
